[PSP] Time Machine Addon for CFW 6.60 ME
« on: April 19, 2012, 07:20:09 AM »

Just yesterday, I came across this homebrew by Neur0n. The very same coder who made the Millennium Edition (ME) custom firmware for PSP. Time machine homebrew, basically, was first developed by Dark Alex (a very renown person on the PSP scene) during the early years of PSP. It enables, according to the source I've read on the internet, to run 2 (or more?) firmwares in a single PSP unit. Just imagine your PC running two or more different operating systems -- that's the very same case with this addon on a PSP. Trouble is, there's not much information revealed other than that for CFW 6.60 ME. I've gone through the process of installing the said addon on my PSP yet didn't know how to actually enable a 2nd firmware running from the memory stick.

I liked CFW 6.60 ME aside from the fact that it's among the latest custom firmware available for our PSP's to date, it addresses some issues that were previously existent on some other older firmwares, but this particular custom firmware too has its problems on its own specifically running older games which have been a case on some older lower firmwares as well. That said, running a second firmware alongside this would be a great solution to address the problem that was mentioned. I'm thinking of running CFW 5.00 M33-6 with 6.60 ME 1.8 but don't know how. CFW 5.00 M33-6, based on experience, has been a very good firmware for a PSP of which can patch a hole that CFW 6.60 ME 1.8 forgot to fix.

Also, I'm still oblivious on what Pandora Battery's role for this particular release by Neuron as the older original Time Machine homebrew requires it. I personally was not able to experience such homebrew way back due to myself lacking a pandora battery of which is mostly used to either hack or unbrick a PSP.

So, has anyone tried this homebrew yet?   huh

[Update]

As far as I know, this homebrew is intended for those PSP's that are NOT in CFW 6.60 ME, but rather are for those that are in other custom firmwares. The reason being that this homebrew will enable those said firmwares to run CFW 6.60 ME side-by-side with them.

I'm still looking for the way to enable a lower older custom firmware with CFW 6.60 ME as the base / original custom firmware installed.

[Update]

Apparently, Neur0n has just tweaked on what Dark Alex had made on his release of Time Machine homebrew in that Neur0n added support for 6.60 ME. All in all, it's still the same homebrew working the same way. I didn't bother researching much on how it actually works, but Pandora Battery is still required for this to work.

Some words about the homebrew from the site I've looked into:

"neur0n has released his 6.60 ME addon for Time Machine, a homebrew app originally released by Dark_Alex. Time Machine takes advantage of the Pandora Battery recovery setup by allowing you to boot firmwares located on your memory stick. Through this, you can use that firmware as if it is installed to your PSP’s flash memory, change the default settings and customize it as you please. Apply all of this to 6.60 ME and you’ll be able to play games that require a higher firmware and use 6.xx plugins without leaving the comfort of your original firmware.

The downside to this however, is that PSP compatibility is limited by Time Machine, which is limited by Pandora itself. This will only work with Phats and Slims that do not have a TA-088v3 motherboard inside. (The TA-088v3 motherboard, PSP-3000s and PSP GOs will not boot into the Pandora Battery recovery menu) If you’re lucky enough to have a compatible PSP, you can give this a shot. Remember, you will need a battery converted to function as a Pandora Battery and a memory stick that is properly formatted as well."
